The lipolytic injection is a medical procedure indicated for the treatment of localized fat that is resistant to physical exercise, healthy eating, and other types of treatments. These injections use an active substance containing deoxycholic acid, resulting in the rupture of adipocytes (fat cells), which consequently leads to their destruction.
This acid is also naturally produced by our body to help in the digestion of fats, which makes this product completely biocompatible and reabsorbable by our body.
It consists of a potent lipolytic treatment where an aqueous solution, along with a biological solute, is injected into the adipose tissue in small quantities and at multiple locations of the area to be treated. The progressive release of this biological solute breaks the cell membrane of the adipocytes, causing their contents (glycerol and fatty acids) to be released into the surrounding subcutaneous space, where they are subsequently metabolized and, consequently, eliminated through the hepatic and renal pathways.
Currently, these injections are FDA-approved for the treatment of the submental area (commonly known as the "double chin"), proving their efficacy and safety.
However, this procedure can also be performed in other areas of our body such as the arms, abdomen, flanks, inner thighs, love handles, buttocks, among others.
Most people notice improvements from the first treatment session.
The number of sessions required varies individually.
The time interval between sessions should be at least 4 weeks.
After the procedure, you may feel some discomfort, burning, or pain in the treated area, and there may also be the formation of edema, bruising, and erythema.
Except for the edema, which may take up to 4 weeks to fully disappear, all other effects are temporary and do not interfere with your daily routine. After the treatment, you can resume your normal activities immediately.
You should only be cautious about physical exercise, which should not be performed on the day of the product application.
Once eliminated, adipocytes are not reproduced by our body, meaning the results achieved are permanent. However, if you return to an unhealthy diet and lifestyle, you may gain weight again, although the distribution of fat will be different.
The adipocytes that remain in our body can increase, potentially resulting in new fat deposits in other areas of the body.
Lipolytic injections are not a weight loss method; they are only used to dissolve fat deposits in specific areas of the body. People undergoing this procedure should have a stable weight.
Until recently, surgery – liposuction – was the only effective technique for fat removal. However, over the years, various studies have been conducted to develop a minimally invasive technique that, through the injection of a substance, leads to the effective and safe destruction of adipocytes in patients with small fat deposits.
In this way, lipolytic injections have been indicated as the ideal technique to achieve these results, being the most sought-after solution to avoid plastic surgery. Through their administration via micro-needles, in a non-surgical manner, we can restore the desired body contours to individuals and bring about a gradual change in their self-image.
Lipolytic injections can also serve as an additional treatment after liposuction for individuals left with irregular body contours and remaining fat deposits ("dimples"), helping to eliminate them. Combining treatments such as radiofrequency and ultrasound technology is recommended to optimize results.
